MARTIN D. BEIRNE currently resides in Houston, Texas and practicing law at Akerman L.L.P. He has received many accolades from his peers throughout his career. Beirne has published articles in numerous journals as well as spoken at conferences throughout Texas. He has been named one of the top lawyers throughout the United States and has earned repute through his admission into multiple court systems throughout the United States.

Beirne graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama in 1966 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in English. He then attended St. Mary’s University School of Law. During his time at St. Mary’s University School of Law, he became the Editor-in-Chief for the St. Mary’s Law Journal between 1968 and 1969. He received his JD with honors from St. Mary’s University School of Law in May of 1969. Beirne passed the State Bar Exam of Texas in September of 1969. He is certified to practice in International, Administrative and Public, Litigation: Commercial, Oil and Gas.

Unlike many who graduated and went on to look for work in a firm, Beirne decided to join the United States military. He was a Captain in the Army from 1969-1971. From 1971 to 1985, he became a partner at Fulbright & Jaworski. In 1987, Beirne became the chairman of Beirne, Maynard & Parsons, L.L.P. Then, in 2016 he moved forward in his career and chose to work for Akerman L.L.P. as a senior partner in Houston, Texas, to present the day in 2019.

During his time as a lawyer, he was awarded multiple honors in his career. Some of these honors can be listed as being recognized as being one of the Best Lawyers in America 2016-2019, listed for Energy Law, Gas and Oil Law, as well as Commercial Litigation in the State of Texas. In 2004, Beirne was named the St. Mary’s Law School Distinguished Law Graduate. Other Honors are from Super Lawyers, Chambers USA, Texas Lawbook, and Corporate Legal Times.
