JOHN H. BARR is a Dallas, Texas native who graduated from Richardson High School in Richardson, TX. Barr’s prominent cases include representing Aeromexico in a case against a former executive of the airline, Gerardo de Prevoisin. The case dealt with allegations of political corruption between Prevoisin and the Mexican government. Another of Barr’s cases involved Aeroperú Flight 603 in which a Boeing 757 leaving Lima, Peru crashed into the ocean due to faulty equipment. He also represented NFL security contractors in multiple injury cases related to Super Bowl 45.
Barr received a degree in business administration from St. Mary’s University in 1980 and his J.D. in 1980 from St. Mary’s University School of Law. After Law School, Barr joined the law firm of Truehart, McMillian, and Westbrook under the supervision of Joel W. Westbrook.
During his career as a lawyer, Barr has served from 1981 – present on the State Bar Court Cost and Efficiency Committee, as well as the Dallas Bar of Ethics Committee, and was the Chairman of the Dallas Bar Rules Committee. He has also served as Exterior Counsel Secretary of Energy Mexico, Special Counsel for Dallas County three times over, Special Council for the County of Rockwall, Exterior Counsel and Lecture for the Central Bank of Mexico, and Exterior Counsel for PGR Mexico.
Throughout his career, Barr has received a significant number of honors, including being named “one of the best lawyers in America” by U.S. News and World Reports and as among “The Best Lawyers in Texas” by The Wall Street Journal. He holds the highest rating of AV from the Martindale Hubbell peer review rating organization. In 2016, Barr was also recognized as an outstanding alumnus from the St. Mary’s School of Law.
Early in his life, Barr was in show business and just barely gained admission into school. Currently Barr practices at Bart Barr & Associates, LLP.
