HONORABLE NELSON WOLFF was born October 27, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas and serves as a Bexar County Judge. Judge Wolff has been married to Tracy W. (Hoag) Wolff since 1989, and the couple resides together in Texas. Justice Wolff has six children and eight grandchildren. 

Justice Wolff graduated from St. Mary’s University with a B.B.A. in Business Administration and a doctorate of jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1966 through a program that allowed students to receive both their bachelor’s degree and their J.D. at the same time. Justice Wolff has served in multiple political capacities in San Antonio, including the Texas House of Representatives from 1971-1973, the Texas Senate from 1973-1975, the City of San Antonio City Council from 1987-1991 and the City of San Antonio Mayor from 1991-1995. Justice Wolff was appointed as county judge in 2001, and has since been re-elected four times. Justice Wolff is “the second person in over a century to serve as both Mayor of San Antonio and Bexar County Judge.” 

Justice Wolff has published several books about San Antonio, the most recent one being Bexar BiblioTech: The Evolution of the Country’s First All-digital Public Library (2015). He has received countless awards and honors including the St. Mary’s University School of Law Distinguished Alumnus of the Year, and he was inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame. He was a member of the St. Mary’s University board of directors, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the San Antonio Medical Foundation and the World Affairs Council. 

In June 2018, he called on the San Antonio Legislative Association to reform campaign finance laws and continues to represent the county while working to promote economic and workforce development. The Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium was dedicated in honor of him and serves as a venue for events and games in the city for festivals such as the Texas League All-Star Game in 2011.
