PETER EARL HOSEY has practiced law as an attorney for over 28 years in multiple law firms, working in cases relating to energy, environmental, and natural resources law. Hosey began his life in Stuttgart, Germany. Hosey’s family immigrated to the United States in 1956 as a child and became a citizen in 1960.

Hosey graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Arts in 1976 and entered St. Mary’s University School of Law. He graduated in 1979 with a doctorate in jurisprudence and joined ExxonMobil, one of the largest oil distributors in the United States. After a year, Hosey joined the legal firm Woodward, Hunter & Hosey; in 1988 moved to Gresham, Davis, Gregory, Worthy & Moore; and in 2001 started with Jackson Walker LLP until his retirement in 2020.

Peter Hosey has been recognized for his contributions in the legal field, including among the “Best San Antonio Lawyers for Energy, Oil and Gas, and Real Estate Transactions” for years 2007-2009, 2012-2014, and 2017-2019. Additionally, Hosey was awarded the title of “Super Lawyer” by Thomas Reuters on multiple occasions. He received the Distinguished Graduate Award from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2013. Recently, in 2019 he was recognized as one of “The Best Lawyers in America,” by Woodward/White Inc. for Oil and Gas Law. Hosey also served on the Oil, Gas, and Energy Resources Law council for the State Bar in Texas, including as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice-President, and Chair as of 2018.

A sought-after speaker, Hosey’s notable speeches included “To Whom it May Concern” and “Where there is a Well There is a Way,” which engage international problems and his thoughts about how they may be engaged. As a proud St. Mary’s alumnus, he has served as president of the St. Mary’s University Law Foundation and contributed to creating the Leopold-Hosey Scholarship.
